Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) said on Wednesday it had bought 55,100 tons of rice from the local market through a tender.
Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of GASC, said in a statement the price range was LE 1,500-1,555 ($271-281) per ton and the quantity was due to be supplied to the consumers under the subsidy program between May 8 and May 29.
In its latest tender on March 31, GASC bought 57,500 tons of rice from the domestic market, at prices ranging between LE 1,588 and LE 1,630.
