Dubai-based contractors, engineering and contracting company Convrgnt Value Engineering is investing Dh50 million in a steel rebar manufacturing plant at Techno Park, a senior official said.
"Quick Steel will process 1,000 tonnes of steel bars per month and we expect the facility to be up and running within the next few months," said John Clarke, business development manager of Convrgent.
"We are also setting up mobile re-bar and concrete batch plant that will help us to manage projects on a fast-track basis as we will have most of the essential supplies in-house.
"Re-bar processing capacity will be 35 tonnes per shift, while capacity at the batch plant is 100 tonnes per hour," he said.
With these projects, the company will be able to withstand the challenges of price fluctuation in the market, he said. "We are currently concentrating on design and build projects as we now have everything in-house.
"This gives us an edge in offering full construction services from concept to completion. We are also targeting fast-track projects, residential and commercial towers."
Convrgnt is a 27-year-old construction, structural engineering and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractors. The company with more than 2,000 people on its payroll is currently expanding its facilities, including head offices and other associated facilities.
It is in the process of completing a Dh83 million project involving 92 villas at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and a Dh110 million project involving 261 villas and townhouses at Emaar Properties' Emirates Hills.
Convrgnt has recently submitted bids for a 41-storey tower, SkyGarden, at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), to be developed by Kuwait-based Al Mazaya developers.
Three bids are believed to have been submitted for the project. W/S Atkins are project consultants while Projex is the project managers. "Evaluation of the bids will start soon and will take a few weeks," Clarke said.
