Dubai: Dubai Duty Free said on Tuesday it was named the ‘Best for Duty Free Shopping’ at the Business Traveller Middle East awards, for the 13th consecutive year. The awards were held on the eve of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), at the Waldorf Astoria on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, with more than 300 travel industry executives in attendance.
The airport retailer achieved record sales of $1.8 billion in 2013 and has been acknowledged as the largest single airport duty free operation in the world. It came out tops in the readers’ survey conducted by the magazine within the category ‘Best Airport in the Middle East for Duty Free Shopping’.
The Business Traveller Middle East award is the third major award to be won by Dubai Duty Free this year, it said in a statement. In April, the operation received two awards from Duty Free News International (DFNI) for Travel-Retail Excellence - “Best Airport Travel Retailer of the Year” and “Best New Shop Opening”. The latter was awarded for the January 2013 opening of Concourse A in Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3.
While congratulating all of Dubai Duty Free’s 6,000 employees, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin stated: “We never take these things for granted. Every award that we receive is a reflection on the hard work undertaken by all of our team.”
