Doha - Consequent to fantastic responses to the BizQuiz 2005 , Sports Quiz I and Sports Quiz II , Doha Bank recently organised BizQuiz 2007 at the Al Majlis Hall Doha Sheraton Hotel. The event was one of the largest countrywide quizzes with over 350 teams registering via the website -- www.qatarquiz.com. Leading corporate organisations participated in an intense brain teasing quiz programme.
H E Sheikh Fahad bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman of Doha Bank; and H E Sheikh Abdul Rehman bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani, Managing Director and CEO of Doha Bank were present. R Seetharaman welcomed the participants and expressed his happiness at the way corporate houses has responded to the quiz. He promised more such stimulating educational and entertaining events from Doha Bank on regular intervals.
The event was conducted in two stages. In first stage all teams undertook a written preliminary test consisting of 20 questions to be answered in 15 minutes. Based on the performance at preliminary round, top 5 teams were selected for finals. The final round was conducted on stage. There were 5 rounds named -- On Your Mark (Business Round), Listen (Audio round), See (Static Visuals Round), See Again (Video round) and Take Your Pick (Rapid Fire Round) .
The Rapid Fire round had an interesting mix of topics -- Women achievers, Space -- The Final Frontier, It's a Wild Wild World, Give One Word For, Men and Machines and News This Week. It was an intense, closely contested final with each team trying to outdo the other.
The questions were from very diverse topics covering business, finance, entertainment, current affairs, sports, technology, history etc. In addition there were many questions exclusively for audiences also. Seetharaman assumed the role of quizmaster for the evening.
The finalists were -- National Food Company (Sanjay Shetty and Mansoor Khan) , Hill and Knowlton (Hans Ottesen and Chloe Lively), Al Jazeera English (Ranjit Bhaskar and Arnab Senguptha), Qafco (Asim Merchant and Karthik Sitaraman) and David Adamson(Colin Sheils and Karen Kumar). The competition was very intense, as very small margin separated the teams. There was a tie among 3 teams for the second place. Ultimately, the winners were David Adamson followed closely by National Food Company.
H E Sheikh Fahad Bin Mohammed Bin Jabor Al Thani and H E Sheikh Abdul Rehman Bin Mohammed Bin Jabor Al Thani gave away the cash prizes to the teams. Three special cash prizes were give to the winners of the first of its kind Quiz-by-SMS competition. The winners were -- Ms Karen, Roshan Shetty and Pyara Singh. The event was colourfully interspersed with dance performances by a group of kids from Samanvayam. The event finally concluded with dinner.
