Doha Bank on Wednesday announced that it has signed an agreement with Bank of Ceylon, the largest bank in Sri Lanka, for remittance of funds from Qatar to Sri Lanka.

The deal was inked by Seetharaman, CEO of Doha Bank, and Gunasekara, deputy general manager of Bank of Ceylon, during an event named “Qatar – Sri Lanka bilateral opportunities” and held at Doha Bank Head Office Tower at West Bay.

Under the new agreement, Doha Bank’s customers will be able to transfer money from the Qatari lender to their accounts at any branch of Bank of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, according to the bank’s statement to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE).

“The tie-up with Bank of Ceylon will provide an opportunity to extend our services to Sri Lankan community in Qatar by meeting their banking and remittance requirements,” Seetharaman commented.

It is worth noting that Doha Bank’s profits declined 34.3% to QAR 470.7 million during the first half of 2018, compared to QAR 715.5 million in Q1-17.

By the end of Wednesday’s session, Doha Bank’s stock rose 0.47% at QAR 21.56.
