Tehran Oil Refinery's desulphurization unit will be launched in late November following an investment of $500 million for its expansion program.

Announcing this, a senior official of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said the units for generating electricity and steam, distilled water, LPG recycling, storages, unit for separating sour water, allied installations, cooling tower, and granulated sulphur unit have been launched until now, Mehr News Agency reported.

Highlighting that five other units will be established by yearend (March 2012), Hassan Mir-Soltani said the unit with a capacity to desulphurize 31,500 barrels of kerosene will become operational by late December.

He said the project aims to reduce environmental pollutants and improve the quality of kerosene and diesel in accordance with Euro-5 Standard.
