New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has requested cyber crimes division of the local police to probe leaked video footage of couples getting intimate in its empty trains, allegedly captured by its CCTV cameras.

About 250 such video clips were leaked and posted on pornographic websites, creating a furore in the metropolis, which saw the DMRC and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) pointing fingers at each other for the leakage.

CISF is responsible for providing security at all metro stations. CISF has already said that it does not have access to footage captured by CCTV cameras installed inside metro trains and none of its personnel could thus be behind the leakage.

DMRC has asked Delhi Police to find out if the footages were indeed recorded from CCTV cameras installed in its trains.

DMRC’s internal security department has already come to the conclusion that the video clips appear doctored and were not captured by its CCTV cameras.

“We have found two such clips on the internet and sent them to the cyber crime cell. We will also seek help from CISF to unearth the truth,” DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

DMRC’s suspicion that the videos were not captured by its CCTV cameras comes from the fact that, in one clip, announcements made inside the train can be heard. DMRC says its cameras do not have audio recording features.

Also, DMRC said, the camera remains focused on a couple getting intimate whereas its cameras pan, tilt and zoom. Four CCTV cameras are installed inside each coach and together they cover about 90 per cent of the space inside a coach.

DMRC says its cameras cannot remain focused on any individual for more than a few seconds and the footage in question must have been shot on mobile phones.

The DMRC, however, is not saying that the incidents did not take place in its trains. Its last trains which run up to midnight are nearly empty towards their final stations, which makes it possible for people to carry out such acts.
