Brig General Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director of the Prevention Department of Qatar Civil Defence and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Civil Defence Conference 2009, said that the second exhibition will be organised during the conference between November 3 to 5, pointing out that the exhibition, which lasts three days, will be attended by many officials from Arab and other foreign countries and will include many exhibits about security and safety.

He said that the main purpose of the 2nd Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference 2009 is to confirm that the State of Qatar seeks to provide safety in all enterprises, whether state government or the private sector at all levels. He stressed the need for cooperation between the private sector and governmental sector to achieve the best safety methods

Brig General Al Suwaidi praised the organisation of the 1st Civil Defence Exhibition 2007 by Dar Al Sharq and the collaboration between the Department of Civil Defence and Dar Al Sharq for its efforts to ensure the success of the exhibition for the second time since it was convened in 2007.

"Based on the construction boom that Qatar is currently witnessing and a large number of companies implementing many of the mega projects, which were accompanied by a major development in the safety, these companies must be acquainted with new products in safety, which is within the guidelines and the Ministry of the Interior, Civil Defence Department in particular," said Brig General Al Suwaidi.

He added that due to the large turnout by the companies during the Civil Defence Exhibition 2007, the Ministry of Interior decided, under the guidance of H E Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs, to organise the second exhibition for the benefit of the companies and the need for access to the latest technologies with respect to safety which is considered the basic need of the State.

Brig. General Al Suwaidi said the State on the verge of large-scale projects which require the presence of modern systems and these devices must be known to the companies, whether local or global, especially the local companies represents agencies for companies in America, Asia and Europe. He added that Qatar tracks the latest safety systems, which should be available in all buildings

He said that this exhibition is an opportunity for communication among the consulting and management offices to acquaint with modern systems, where workshops for consultative offices will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, to identify the code of safety and new products of companies. It is also a great opportunity for Civil Defence engineers to meet civil defence engineers worldwide and engineers in consultative offices in Qatar.

Brig General Al Suwaidi emphasises that the Civil Defence is in continuous development and what has been achieved during the previous period will be presented during the Exhibition along with action plans and exhibition of new equipments.

Regarding the participating countries at the Exhibiton, Al Suwaidi said that organising committee of the exhibition is in contact with local and international companies to participate in the exhibition, expecting extensive participation of such companies to reach to the level of existing projects in Qatar.

He said that the turnout of owners and investors to acquaint with the safety requirements in buildings came as a result of the first exhibition and this confirms the need to use the safety regulations in the project, stressing that the Department was keen to involve the use of modern systems in the project in accordance with international standards that ensure their suppliers to use because the nature of the projects needs modern systems.

On the US Code for safety applied by Qatar currently, Brig General Al Suwaidi confirmed that all consulting offices are aware of this code and it has been applicable in Qatar for a considerable period and this is not new. This Code is internationally recognised and adapted according to the nature of each country. He noted that the Civil Defence Department applies the same code used in America, Europe and East Asia.

He said that the code is a procedure adopted by engineers to ensure safety and security for the project. Companies also manufacture products based on this code and the Civil Defence mission is to make sure that these systems exist at the basis of global user code.

Meanwhile, Brig General Abdullah Fakhro, Chairman of the Second Civil Defence Conference organised by Dar Al Sharq in conjunction with the Civil Defence Exhibition 2009, between November 3 to 5, announced that workshops will be held, in which the review of the civil Defence system applied by Qatar, nfba, which is an independent body in USA exporting measures of prevention of fires in all buildings and one of the world leading authorities in this field.

He said that because of the novelty of using the system in Qatar, it will be the main point during the conference workshops in order to get consultants acquainted with it.

He added that the aim of this workshop is to lay the necessary foundations at the construction of any building and the requirements of civil Defence, especially in high-rise buildings and plants in coordination with the architects of the Department. This workshop will help the high level of safety. He pointed out that the safety code has been adopted long time ago and actually applied for two years.

He invited all the consultants to attend the workshop, especially for those who do not have any knowledge of this system, refering to that the Department has a record of number of companies applying civil defence systems and all will be invited to attend the workshop.

Ezz UlDin Abdul Rahman, executive director of the second Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference 2009, organised by Dar Al Sharq between November 3 to 5, stressed significance of holding this exhibition given the great success achieved by the previous exhibition, which was participated by a large number of companies working in the field of Civil Defence under the wise leadership of H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He added that the aim of the exhibition is to offer the best safety services and products with a focus on the needs of the labor market in this area and to meet directly with exhibitors and decision makers in the domestic public and private institutions during the fair, and consolidate and strengthen the services of local companies in addition to finding the perfect ground for the establishment of trade links between the parties.

He pointed out that the exhibition will be held at the Doha Exhibition Center on a large area, confirming the extensive turnout of companies specialising in this area to participate in the exhibition.

He explained that the first exhibition organised by Dar Al Sharq in 2007 witnessed signing of deals for 80 percent of the participating companies and transactions worth more than $10,00,00,000 took place. More than 500 local and international participants and 2500 visitor also attended the Exhibition.

Ezz El Din Abdul Rahman expected that extensive number of companies will participate in this exhibition by virtue of good organisation by constant efforts of Dar Al Sharq.

He stressed that the expo will be held in conjunction with Civil Defence Conference which aims at developing capabilities of consultation companies and not an anniversary as the case in Civil Defence Day.

He said that this year the conference will focus on consultation companies, construction companies and owners of properties in addition to beneficiaries of the specialisations of this exhibition and its modern developments.
