Work on the upper section of a new BD13.8 million flyover that would ease traffic on two busy highways is 28 per cent completed.
This was revealed after an inspection of the site by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf accompanied by roads projects and maintenance director Sayed Bader Alawi and senior officials as 100pc work on the foundation was complete.
The new 800-metre free flow flyover will link Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway with Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway.“The project aims to ease the current traffic jams on the junction from the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway towards Hamad Town to Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway in the direction of Adhari,” said Mr Khalaf.“
The new flyover will have a capacity of 3,600 vehicles per hour compared with the current 900 vehicles per hour at the junction,” he added.“
The current flow at the junction is 5,000 vehicles per hour, which is five times its present capacity.“Work on the new flyover is done using advanced technology, with 28pc of the work and 100pc of the work on foundation completed.”The project is financed by the Saudi Fund for Development.
