GORGAN - The Agricultural Jihad Organization of Golestan has warned about the spread of a stem disease in the colza farms across this northern province.
"Wet weather has favored the development of Sclerotinia stem rot in the colza farms," the organization announced on Monday, calling on farmers and agricultural experts to report any case of disease in order to accelerate the process of preventing the spread of Sclerotinia in other parts of the province.
The first visible symptoms of the disease appear by the end of flowering. Dead and lodging plants occur singly or in patches in infected fields. Infections of individual plants usually develop around cast petals. Colza (Brassica campestris) farming has covered 70,000 hectares of land across Golestan Province this year.
