Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Friday (May 28th) replaced Energy Minister Chakib Khelil with a former holder of the same post, Youcef Yousfi, because of Khelil's handling of the Sonatrach scandal, Tout sur l'Algerie reported.

The president's surprise cabinet shake-up also saw Algerie Telecom CEO Moussa Benhamdi replace Minister for Information Technology and Communication Hamid Bessalah, while Mustapha Benbada replaced El Hachemi Djaaboub as head of the Commerce Ministry. Interior Minister Nourredine Zerhouni was promoted to the newly created post of deputy prime minister, and Dahou Ould Kablia will take his place.
