TEHRAN - Iran has proposed cargo transshipment from Pakistan bound for Iraq via its Persian Gulf port Bandar Imam Khomeini.

On Monday in Tehran, during the first session of the Iran-Pakistan Ports Cooperation Commission, Iran's Ports and Shipping Organization (IPO) official Gholamreza Sassani called for the transshipment of cargo from Pakistan through Iran via Bandar Imam Khomeini, the Persian service of the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported.

Sassani, who is also Iran's representative on the commission, said Iran and Pakistan should expand cooperation in various areas such as search and rescue operations, the campaign against maritime pollution, checking and control of vessels, the establishment of training standards, and the issuance of international certificates.

The Pakistani side proposed the establishment of ferry services between the two neighboring ports of Chabahar, Iran and Gwadar, Pakistan.
