BHRWS to push for visit by lawyers and doctors
Bahraini terror suspect Abdulrahim Al Murbati is in Al Aseer jail, according to a Bahraini activist.
"Abdulrahim has been shifted from Al Hair jail to Al Aseer prison. We plan to hold talks with the Saudi authorities to allow lawyers and doctors to meet him in the prison," Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society regional and international director Faisal Fulad said.
The family of the detainee, who was arrested in 2003 on terror linked charges, was shocked to learn that Abdulrahim was missing from the Riyadh prison. They planned to see him but cancelled the visit after they heard the news.
"The Saudi authorities say he is in Al Asser. But the Bahraini embassy in Riyadh says he is not there. We are confused. We do not know who to believe. Al Murbati's wife and kids are waiting to hear news about his whereabouts," the suspect's brother, Usman, told the Tribune yesterday.
Speculation is rife that Abdulrahim has been handed over to the Bahraini authorities, but there has been no official confirmation yet.
Similar rumours about the transfer of another terror suspect, Khalil Janahi, are doing the rounds.
Janahi holds a UAE passport and is married to a Bahraini. He was reportedly arrested in April last year by the Saudi authorities and was among 172 suspected militants who had allegedly trained in a neighbouring country and planned to storm Saudi prisons to free militants, attack oil refineries and public figures.
"There is no news about my brother. The only information we heard was that they might repatriate him to Bahrain to serve the remaining jail term. But no one from the Saudi authorities has confirmed yet," Janahi's sister Umm Ebrahim said yesterday.
Fulad said they would push for the release of both suspects. "According to our information, both should be home by Ramadhan."
