Bahrain hosted eight Indian weddings in the last two months of last year which directly contributed $5.5 million to the national economy.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) – which organised these weddings, from co-ordination to planning and logistics – said 3,000 guests from Bahrain and all over the world had attended the events, with 2,400 of them flying Gulf Air.

“We are proud of BTEA’s achievements and its success in enhancing the kingdom’s position as a leading destination to host weddings and other celebrations,” said BTEA chief executive Nader Almoayyed in a statement yesterday.

“Bahrain will be hosting more weddings in the coming months,” he said, adding that this was the result of the tourism sector’s advanced infrastructure which boasted four- and five-star hotels, in addition to dedicated food and beverage and entertainment sectors, as well as an abundance of event management companies with vast capabilities to create unique wedding concepts catering to clients’ varied interest and tastes.

He also stressed that BTEA aimed to encourage those about to marry to choose Bahrain as their location for the wedding by playing a pivotal role in providing the necessary support to facilitate the process.

This included effectively co-ordinating between formal and semi-formal entities to ensure they work as an integrated team as well as providing logistical support to supplies and specialists in the field such as Gulf Air to ease travel arrangements for guests.

The BTEA’s strategic efforts are in line with its aim to boost Bahrain’s position as a leading tourism destination for parties and weddings, resulting in the kingdom being placed on the world map of island destination weddings.
