MANAMA (Zawya Dow Jones)--Bahrain will have new currency notes and coins to adopt the new logo and name of the Central Bank of Bahrain, an institution that came into being Sept. 7 following royal approval.
"We have been working round the clock and the Kingdom will have a new currency soon," Anwar Khalifa al-Sadah, Deputy Governor of the CBB, told a news conference Wednesday.
"The CBB will make an announcement at a later stage about the launch of the new currency," he said.
The existing Bahraini currency with the logo of the Bahrain Monetary Agency will remain legal tender for the time being, he said.
This will be the second time in less than five years that the authorities introduce a new currency. The BMA had previously changed the tender when the State of Bahrain became the Kingdom.
The CBB replaced the 33-year-old BMA last week.
