THE construction of the first-ever dedicated private university for women in Bahrain, the Royal University for Women (RUW), is continuing and nearly half the building has been completed in line with the targeted schedule of opening the campus by the first quarter of next year.
Announcing details of progress of the development of RUW, founded by Gulf Finance House, Mohammed Al Zamil, university chairman, said: "The new university edifice is being developed as a comprehensive facility in line with the demands of a modern educational institute. We have already accepted applicants for the 2005-06 academic year. "We are functioning from a temporary location in Riffa and will expand our activities once the new premises are ready."
RUW was conceived three years ago to empower women through higher education, expanding their areas of specialisation.
The campus will also have a dedicated edifice for union activities apart from a restaurant, gymnasium, swimming pool and hostel accommodation for 150 students. Zamil said: "As the first-of-its-kind university in the region, we will focus on creating dynamic personalities who would be assets to the community, contributing to the economy and society in general."
