Container terminal operator, APM Terminals received the maiden voyage of Emma Maersk into the Port of Rotterdam, APM Terminals Bahrain in a statement said yesterday.
"The 397 meter Maersk Line vessel arrived on September 13 and departed the same day after cargo operations were completed. The ship is the latest generation of container vessels that have a large cargo capacity (about 11,000 twenty-foot containers) and operate with the latest design and technology. The ship sets new standards for safety and the environment. Environmentally-friendly silicone paint covers the vessel below the waterline, reducing water resistance and cutting the vessel's fuel consumption by 1200 tons per year."
The statement added: "APM Terminals Rotterdam is well-positioned to handle the container ships of the future. The terminal offers shipping lines eleven modern cranes and the operational experience necessary to serve the world's most modern container ships. APM Terminals, with corporate headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands, is a leading, independent, global container terminal owner and operator of more than 40 ports, serving about 60 container shipping."
APM Terminals Bahrain has been awarded a concession to operate the port and marine services in Mina Salman and later Khalifa bin Salman Port in Bahrain for a period of 25 years.
