Bahrain, being a financial hub in the Middle East, offers the right environment for financial institutions to grow as seen by recent surge in banking and other financial institution licences awarded by the Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA) , Executive Director for Banking Supervision at BMA, Dr Khalid Abdullah Ateeq, has said, writes Mehmood Rafique.

Dr Ateeq, who was chief guest at the opening of BankMuscat International (BMI) Sanad branch, said that the opening of another BMI branch was an encouraging sign which shows the growing trends in the banking and financial sector.

he Omani Ambassador, Salim bin Ali Ba Yacoub Al Mushaikhi, CEO of BMI Musallam Al Shukairi, bankers and businessmen attended the opening ceremony.

"The BMA will continue to provide all-possible assistance to the banks and financial institutions as part of its commitment to this dynamic sector of the national economy," Dr Ateeq said.

Al Shukairi told Bahrain Tribune: "The third branch of BMI will become operational within three months. The bank will roll out new products in due course of time. We have been working to enhance the bank's delivery channels like on-line banking, call centres, SMS and other value-added services since the launch of the bank in Bahrain." He said that Sanad branch would help serve the clientele across the area linked by Istaqlal Highway.

"The branch will provide services to its clients in Sanad and adjoining areas. The bank plans to use this branch to target small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs). The role of SMEs in the development of the national economy is very important and BMI will continue to support them," Al Shukairi said.

"We thank BMA Governor, our stakeholders as well as our customers who have supported the bank continuously. We reaffirm our commitment towards providing unique financial solutions and delivery channels and will continue to develop new products and services that will enhance the relationship with our customers," he said.
