The tourism and exhibition projects underway in Bahrain were yesterday given a major boost.

The Bahrain and Kuwait Bank (BBK) granted a BD50 million credit facility to Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) to support its projects countrywide.

The deal was signed by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani and BBK chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Ali Saif.

The credit facility will go towards supporting tourism and exhibition industry projects, including the state-of-the-art centre in Sakhir.

The facility, under construction on a land covering 309,000 square metres, features 10 showrooms covering 95,000 well-equipped to host major international expos.

It also includes a main convention centre covering 4,500 sqm, with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 people, in addition to other meeting rooms and multi-purpose facilities.

The project is expected to be completed and handed over by the end of the second quarter of next year.

Mr Alzayani, also the BTEA chairman, said that the “ambitious agreement” serves the authority’s projects, in line with government strategies to develop the tourism and exhibition industries.

He praised BBK for its support which, he said, will contribute to supporting the sectors of tourism and exhibitions, spur growth, diversify resources and generate jobs.

He stressed BTEA to continue promoting Bahrain’s standing on the map of world tourism, commending the vital partnership between the public and private sectors.
