MUSCAT -- The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) joins other professional accountancy bodies across the world in recognising the 30th anniversary of the founding of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the global organisation for the accountancy profession. The climax of the celebrations for IFAC, which represents 155 members and associates in nearly 120 countries, will be World Accountancy Week, to be held during December 2-8.
Allen Blewitt, ACCA CEO, said: "As a founder, committed and active member body, we are very pleased to share in IFAC's celebrations. A genuinely global professional body ourselves, with members in 170 countries, we recognise the key role IFAC has played in building up the profession throughout the world. We have contributed extensively to IFAC's agenda in the creation of standards covering education, ethics and professional development, and helped IFAC to advance the cause of professional accountancy in developing nations, SMEs and in the corporate sector.
"We are pleased that IFAC has chosen the theme of recognising the role that finance professionals play in the support of local and national economies across the globe. ACCA is marking the anniversary by organising a number of events in its offices around the world which focus on that crucial issue. This is a timely celebration in a year in which ACCA has introduced its new qualification, putting professionalism and ethics at the heart of developing the next generation of accountants. ACCA shares IFAC's commitment to supporting financial responsibility, transparency and accountability at all levels of society from individuals, to business entities, to governments."
During World Accountancy Week, IFAC will announce the results of a Global Leadership Survey on issues facing the accountancy profession which, in turn, affect economic growth and development. IFAC will also release a brief history of the organisation which will document the roles of ACCA and other bodies in protecting the public interest and in promoting high quality practice by more than 2.5 million professional accountants worldwide.
