DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched a major maintenance works on all the roads that are leading to the wholesale market.

The roads which will undergo the maintenance works include the inner roads of fish market, and fruits and vegetable markets at Abu Hamour area.

The maintenance work includes complete replacement of the existing asphalt level, repairing the damages on the platforms and repainting them, erection of street lights and traffic signage works.

Ashghal officials yesterday announced the closure of some roads (see the map) in connection with the maintenance works

The road maintenance department of the Assets Affairs of Ashghal will complete the maintenance work within a month and submit the work to the Doha Municipality before the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Road Operation and Maintenance (ROM) Department of Ashghal is undertaking such maintenance on most of the major streets and roads in the country in view of road safety and life security, said Ahmed Rashid Al Kubaisi, head of the road maintenance section.

"So far, the department has completed maintenance of many streets including Majlis Taawn Street, Khaleej Street, Wukair - Mesaimeer Street, Maha Street and Makkah Street at Luqta, Women's College Street etc. Maintenance is conducted on such streets and major roundabouts until new projects are developed to have new roads and infrastructure in these areas", he said.

The ROM department is responsible for maintenance of streets and roads above 24 meter width. Whereas, roads and streets lesser than 24m width are maintained by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.
