MUSCAT -- Amiantit Oman, one of the largest manufacturing companies in the Sultanate opened its concrete pressure pipe manufacturing line called Pre-stressed Steel Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) factory at its Rusayl facility recently. Gregor Koessler, Austrian Ambassador to Riyadh and also accredited for Sultanate of Oman officially opened the plant in front of representatives from various ministries, public and private sector officials. This PCCP pipe is an economical alternative and import substitute to approximately RO40m worth of imported Ductile Iron/Mild Steel Pipes currently used for water transmission networks in the Sultanate of Oman. This state-of-the-art technology and association with Austria's leading technology supplier Schluesselbauer Technology will enable the Omani firm to venture into the water distribution network while widening its marketing horizon, according to its diplomatic representative in the country.
Not only that, the new factory will generate engineering employment for the nationals and would immensely create In-Country value. The Pre-stressed Steel Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) is a Concrete Pressure Pipe widely used internationally for pressure water transmission and are known world over to have long life and compared to corroding Ductile Iron Pipes which often result in water supply disruption in various cities. PCCP carries with itself a 50 years warranty and 90 out of 100 largest water utilities in United States of America, use PCCP Pipes in their water transmission network. This pipe is also widely used in Europe, Egypt, India, China, Australia and many major developed countries. Amiantit Oman has technically tied up with the largest North American Precast manufacturer called "Munro Ltd" for manufacturing these pipes in Oman.
The plant is already been audited by Llyod's register and the certification is soon expected. This is expected to create a benchmark for quality in Oman. Established in 1974 by a Royal Decree, Amiantit Oman is one of the largest companies manufacturing various products for infrastructure development in the Sultanate of Oman.
