Two contracts worth around 75 million in JordanLEVALLOIS-PERRET, France--(Business Wire)--Regulatory News: Alstom (Paris:ALO) has signed two orders worth approximately 75 million withMetka S.A., a leading international contractor for large scale energy projectsto deliver power generation equipment for key projects that Metka is executingfor the Samra Electric Power Company in the Kingdom of Jordan. * The first contract involves the delivery of a GT13E2 gas turbine and associatedspares for the new fast-track simple cycle power plant being constructed in theregion of Zarqa in the Kingdom of Jordan. Alstom will design, deliver andsupervise the installation of one GT13E2 gas turbine, generator and auxiliariesfor the new unit. The supply and installation will take place in a `fast-track` mode withcommercial operation scheduled for June 2013. The power plant will add 146 MW tothe Jordanian grid, bringing much needed generation capacity ahead of the peaksummer months. The GT13E2 gas turbine is already in operation in Jordan. In a contract awardedin 2009, Alstom supplied two GT13E2 gas turbines for the 285 MW Samra III simplecycle plant. The plant has been operational since 2011. The GT13E2 turbine iswell known in the Middle East and North Africa for its ability to operate inharsh climatic conditions and is widely used in region. This latest contractexpands Alstom`s fleet of GT13E2 gas turbines in the Middle East and Africa to60 units. * The second contract involves the supply of Alstom steam-tail add-on technologyto convert the existing 285 MW Samra III simple cycle gas-fired plant to acombined cycle plant. The `Add-on` of this technology will increase the powergeneration capacity of the unit by an additional 143 MW. The project will entercommercial operation in 2015. A steam-tail consists of adding steam power generation equipment to an existinggas power plant to increase its efficiency and cut emissions per MW produced. Steam-tails are an efficient solution to increase generation capacity in theMiddle East region which has plenty of simple cycle gas-fired plants underoperation. Alstom has wide experience in adding steam tails to suit any class ofgas turbines from any original equipment manufacturer. Across the Middle East,it has helped major energy producers improve plant efficiency with steam tailadd-ons. Recent projects in the region include the steam tail contract for theRiyadh PP12 gas-fired power plant being constructed for the Saudi ElectricCompany (SEC) in Saudi Arabia and the steam tail for the Az-Zour gas-firedproject in Kuwait which will add 400 MW to the existing plant capacity. Commenting on these contracts, Mark Coxon, Senior Vice President of Alstom`s Gasbusiness said, "The Middle East is an important gas-fired power generationmarket for Alstom and we are happy to be partnering in the effort to expand theKingdom of Jordan`s generation capacity. Our technology is well suited to theneeds of the region and will support the Middle East in increasing itsgeneration capacity in the most efficient and cost effective manner."
