ADNOC, AMI To Establish $200Mn Melamine Plant In Ruwais
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Agrolinz Melamine International (AMI) on 2 April agreed to establish a $200mn melamine plant in Ruwais. ADNOC will hold 60% in Abu Dhabi Melamine Industry (ADMI), while the rest will be owned by AMI, itself a joint venture between IPIC and OMV (MEES, 15 August 2005). “The new company will be another milestone in ADNOC’s strategy to meet the world’s growing demand for high value and specialized petrochemical products,” said Yusif 'Umair bin Yusif, Secretary-General of the Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) and CEO of ADNOC. The new company is expected to be operational in 1Q 2009 and will produce 80,000 tons/year of melamine. Work on the project is scheduled to start in 2007. Global demand for melamine stands at 1mn tons/year growing at 7-8% with half of global demand generated in the Asian Pacific region.
