Abu Dhabi, Sept 3rd, 2012 (WAM) -- The Health, Environment and Safety Division, Town Planning Sector at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has recently held a workshop entitled "Highlighting the Risks of Scaffolds," to educate individuals working in the building & construction sector.
The Workshop was attended by more than 400 representatives of contractor and consultant firms in Abu Dhabi as well as companies specialized in the field of Health, Safety and Environment. Engineer Salah Awad Al Sarraj, Acting Executive Director of Town Planning Sector at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, said: " The workshop is part of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi's strategy aimed at consolidating the partnership & integral relationships with contracting & consulting firms in order to conclude to the highest standards of HSE applications, and uplift HSE concepts in a way that meets the objectives of the Municipality in nurturing a safe working environment compliant with the applicable standards at the local and international levels. In the meantime he lauded the cooperation and concerted efforts of companies as well as representatives of consultancy offices in supporting this important activity. "A program has been developed to suspend the firms violating the HSE standards at building & construction sites online using the building construction code (CDP) and the management of the mobile inspection (MMIS) such that all online transactions of the project on the CDP will be suspended pending the fulfillment of the HSE conditions & standards, processing of offence removal formalities, and payment of due fines pursuant to Law No (16) for 2009," he added. He called on all firms to ensure strict compliance with the technical & engineering standards as well as the safety elements of building and using scaffolds in line with the applicable requirements of public safety. On the same lines, engineer Abdul Aziz Zurub, Director of Health, Safety and Environment, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, commented: "The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City was keen on furnishing contractors and consultants with all the requisites of safety & security of designing, building and using scaffolds at construction sites, and distributing educative publications & brochures. The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is determined to visit all construction and building sites through continue launching the ongoing inspection and auditing campaigns to verify the compliance of firms with the HSE standards where scaffolds are considered among the top sources of risks posed on workers. It is worth-mentioning that during the Workshop the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City presented Endorsement Letters of the HSE Management System in several entities operating in the building & construction sector in Abu Dhabi, and honoured a number of companies that made high scores in the applications of the HSE requirements.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2012.
