ABU DHABI, June 9th, 2013 -- A delegation from the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City headed by Engineer Abdullah Al Hosni, Director of Risks Management, Strategic Planning and Performance Management Sector, has reviewed the experience of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in the field of risk management in keeping with the Municipality's keenness to benefit from the advanced experiences and corporate excellence achieved by DEWA, especially after attaining a coveted international award in the field of risk management.
A meeting to this effect was held between Ali Al Muwaijei, Director of Corporate Risk Management, DEWA, and a delegation from the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, at DEWA's headquarters, where Al Muwaijei delivered a detailed briefing on DEWA's experience in the field. Engineer Abdullah Al Hosni said, "Our visit to DEWA comes in the context of the Municipality's plans and strategies to examine the successful experiences and distinctive programs in order to benefit from such experiences and share knowledge; considering the global achievements made by DEWA in record time as evidenced by winning a global award in risk management, which is a testimony of the correct and wise vision and strategic planning that ranks DEWA at the forefront of international companies in terms of corporate risk management." He added, "The meeting reviewed DEWA's pioneering experience in developing a global and advanced risk management system, which has had a positive bearing on the quality of performance, raised the security level and reduced the magnitude of potential risks. At the same level, Ali Al Muwaijei, Director of Corporate Risk Management at DEWA, paid tribute to the Municipality's initiative and keenness to bolster cooperative relations and integration of national institutions. He called for intensifying meetings and conferences and sharing experiences, due to the great benefits to the corporate performance as a result of sharing knowledge and successful practices. During the meeting, Al Muwaijei delivered a detailed visual presentation highlighting the establishment of Risk Management Division along with its policies, global standards and notable achievements. "It is such a pride that DEWA wins the Risk Management International Award 2013 in the category of Risk Management Capability Development, which bears reference to the successful policies adopted by DEWA in this area and the achievements made through the implementing risk management mechanisms, and adopting the highest international practices aligned with the values and standards of ISO certification 31000 for risk management," he elaborated. "DEWA's clinching of this award came after competing hard with 350 of the world's best public and private institutions, where DEWA topped the ranking as the first institution in the Middle East and Africa to scoop this coveted award. The Award is a testament to the global recognition of DEWA's successful and sustainable vision at the global level, and its standing as a leading institution in implementing effective and modern measures of risk management in a way that epitomizes the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aimed at improving the competitive capacities of public institutions," he continued. "Risk management is defined as a potential event or circumstance that could have adverse impact on the concerned institution in terms of its existence, resources, products, services, or clients and might also impact the community and the surrounding environment. For each potential risk there could be a preset plan to cope with its potential consequences," he explained. At the end of the meeting, Engineer Abdullah Al Hosni presented a memento to Ali Al Muwaijei, Director of Corporate Risk Management, in recognition of DEWA's keenness to strengthen relations, joint cooperation and exchange of experiences with the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City."
