Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi’s largest shopping mall is set to open on Yas Island in November as part of major development projects on the island, according to a statement issued by Yas Island on Tuesday.
Set over an area of 235,000 square metres, Yas Mall will include 300 shops, and is expected to attract a large number of tourists and visitors.
“It is the largest shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, and the second by area in the UAE. Given its location and proximity to Ferrari World, it will be one of the most attractive destinations to visitors,” stated Clive Dwyer, director of Destination Management on Yas Island.
Yas Mall is set open on the same weekend as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Developers had earlier announced the opening date would be March 26, but it was postponed.
Analysts noted that the mall will boost the retail sector in Abu Dhabi and elevate competition with Dubai.
Colin Beaton, managing director at Limelight Creative Services, said the mall is unique in that it is the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi.
“Abu Dhabi doesn’t have that high-end kind of mall, so there’s definitely room in the market for a mall. The location of [the mall] is very important because it provides a footfall [outlet] for Yas, and it’s connected to Ferrari World... so it’s quite important for Abu Dhabi,” Beaton told Gulf News.
