DUBAI (Dow Jones)--Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., has awarded a $241 million contract covering the construction of a gas pipeline to National Petroleum Construction Co., also Abu Dhabi-based, the state-run WAM news agency reported.

Under the contract, NPCC will carry out engineering, procurement and construction of the 117-kilometer, 30-inch diameter pipeline, which will take 29 months to complete, WAM said in a statement Wednesday.

The pipeline is part of a larger Adnoc project known as offshore associated gas scheme, or OAG, which aims to increase gas production in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates' largest emirate, according to WAM.

On completion, the pipeline will transport as much as 211 million cubic feet of gas a day from Das Island, located off the Abu Dhabi shore, to an onshore processing plant at Habshan, WAM said in the statement.

NPCC is a public joint stock company 70%-owned by Abu Dhabi's General Holding Corporation, and Consolidated Contractors Co. WLL, or CCC, holds the remaining 30%, according to NPCC's Web site.
