Doha - The Magrabi Centre for Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), part of the Al Ahli Hospital in Doha, has successfully conducted over 900 surgeries since the medical facility opened doors nearly a year ago, said its Director, Qadri Ahmed Shalabi. Thanks to the huge demand from patients, the Magrabi Centre will be expanded to offer more clinics with a corresponding increase in the number of ENT consultants, he added.
According to Shalabi, the centre currently has 10 clinics offering specialties such as ophthalmology and otolaryngology. "In addition, we have diagnostic equipment capable of detecting the most minute anomalies in ENT," he added. He pointed out that the 900 cases handled by the centre also included several pediatric and neonatal patients. " We were able to repair hearing of several newborn children who otherwise would have suffered deafness," he added.
Dr Ahmed Handoussa, ENT Consultant, Magrabi Centre said, the facility had successfully implanted the latest electronic hearing aid in newborn children. Part of this device is implanted inside the ear while another part is fixed externally. " These devices are the most modern ones available and we were the first private medical centre in Qatar to perform such a medical procedure. This procedure is unique since it allows ENT surgeons to remove the device and replace it with the latest one within a short time and very little discomfort to the patient. This is important since such technology is advancing at a rapid pace and patients have to be given the latest that is available," he added.
" It is essential to implant such devices from a very early age since hearing impairment can also cause speech problems as a child grows up," he explained. He said, patients from neighboring GCC states such as Bahrain and Saudi Arabia had also come to the Magrabi Centre in Doha for treatment.
