Cairo - The representative of Iraq to the Arab League announced on Tuesday, about contacts conducted by the Arab League to convene a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in the fifth of May to decide on the next Arab summit in Baghdad.

The preparation for the meeting came after the Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said in a message on "Twitter" social website last week that the Gulf Cooperation Council requested in a letter the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amro Moussa to cancel the Arab summit scheduled in Iraq.

Khalid Sheikh did not mention a reason for the request, but the statement comes after he criticized Iraq position from the Bahraini security campaign against the protests led by Shiaa.

The representative of Iraq to the Arab League, Qays al-Azzawi told AKnews that "Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari suggested during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League in Cairo last weekend to held an extraordinary meeting of at the ministerial level on the fifth of next May to discuss this matter and to reach a decision about it. "

Mousa and Zebari announced after their meeting , reaching an agreement to adopt a proposal to convene the Arab foreign ministers meeting to discuss the postponement of the Arab Summit in Baghdad or held it as scheduled on 10 and 11 of next May, in light of the claims to postpone the summit, stressing at the same time that there is no thinking of canceling it.

"The Arab League is still in close contact with all Arab States to convene this meeting to decide on the Arab summit issue to be held in Baghdad after the Gulf Cooperation Council of the Arab Gulf States requested to cancel it."

"The information that I know that so far, the countries of the Cooperation Council of the Arab Gulf States believes that they will participate in this meeting at the level of foreign ministers if discussed other topics as well as the subject of the Arab summit, but if the meeting will discuss the on the Arab summit item only, it will consider making the meeting on the level of permanent delegates. "

It was assumed that the Summit will be held under the chairmanship of Iraq, in 23 of March but was delayed to 29 of the same month, before being postponed to next May, because of the transformations in the Arab region in light of popular uprisings against regimes in a number of Arab countries.

Baghdad hosting the Arab summit is the biggest event in the country for nearly two decades, as about 50 thousand U.S. troops kept in the country for support functions are preparing to the final withdrawal this year.
