Kingdom Foundation Chaired by Prince Alwaleed Donates more than $3million to Darfur to house 500 Families in Response to a Request from Sudan's President
Kingdom Foundation* (KF) Chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud donated $3,193,000 to Sudan's Darfur region to provide much needed aid there. The donation will go towards building a complete village in Darfur that will serve 500 families, complete with 500 hundred houses, water station, clinic, school, police station, electric generator, mosque and mill.HRH's contribution was in response to an invitation by the President of Sudan Omar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir that was handed to HRH by Sudanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia His Excellency Mohamed Amin Alkarib during a meeting with the Prince at his office in Riyadh. The invitation to the Prince was to attend the Arab Conference for Humanitarian Support to Darfur that was held in Khartum on October 21-30, 2007. Prince Alwaleed instructed representatives of KF to make the donation following KF's review of the situation in Darfur and their recommendations to relieve suffering there by housing the displaced.
In 2003, HRH donated 80 tons of supplies for Sudanese flood victims to help the government deal with the massive destruction that happened in some provinces east of the country. The donation that consisted of tents, blankets, medical supplies, hygiene service requirements, water pumps and first aids for disasters, were shipped from Riyadh to Agiler via a private cargo jet.
HRH's donation to Darfur is another example of the Prince's dedication to philanthropy and immediate donations to help alleviate suffering all over the world. Last year HRH made a $360,000 donation to SOS Children's Village in Indonesia and made a substantial emergency donation to Indonesia's flood victims. In 2006, HRH made a donation for the Yemen landslide victims and in the same year donated $1 million through the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) to the drought-ravaged people of Kenya. His Highness had made a SR20 million donation to Pakistan's earth quake victims in 2005.
