Al Ghuwaifat: The line of trucks stuck on the UAE-Saudi Arabia border grew longer yesterday with at least 6,000 vehicles waiting to leave at last count.
By afternoon, the tailback had stretched four kilometres beyond the Abu Dhabi side of Al Sila on the E11 the only route for truckers along the Arabian Gulf coast to the region.
The Ministry of Interior said it will provide assistance to the truckers. It sent a technical team from the immigration and residency departments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to help them complete customs procedures on the UAE side of the border.
Courier company trucks carrying pre-cleared packages, refrigerated units and regular passenger vehicles and buses are being given priority at the border and are unaffected by the delays.
