The Information Technology Authority (ITA) is opening registration for the upcoming Oman Summer of Code program 2014. The program aims to discover and encourage open-source based application developers. Inspired by Google Summer of Code, the three month program will be focusing on developing and customizing an open source app for businesses.
The project also aims to create jobs for young people through self-employment and composition of medium and small companies with a national product and high quality input.
Targeted to the Omani nationals whether individually or collectively, students, researchers and IT enthusiasts are welcomed to register. Entries for the program will utilize open source technologies as a comprehensive service tool. They will get to employ technology and open source applications to serve the public and private institutions by automating procedures and raise the quality of services provided to customers, whether inside or outside the organization.
Be part of the program and walk away with cash prizes worth O.R. 800 for each participant as well as O.R. 15,000 for the three first place winners.
