BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Mainly state-owned Qatar Electricity and Water Co., or QEWC, has proposed to set up an additional local water production station in Ras Abu Fintas with a capacity of 72 million gallons a day, Doha-based Asharq daily reports Wednesday citing an executive.

The proposal has been submitted to government-owned Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp., or Kahramaa, Fahed Al Mohannadi, QEWC's general manager, told the paper.

If the project is approved it will boost QEWC's output of desalinated water to more than 330 million gallons or 83% of Qatar's water production, he told Asharq, adding that the project could be completed in 2015.
