MUSCAT -- The Port Services Corporation (PSC) Chief Executive Officer, Saud bin Ahmed al Nahari, was named the BizPro Business Leader of the Year at a function held here recently. The BizPro Awards, now into the 4th year, are presented to successful Omani business leaders and young achievers in recognition of their achievements in the corporate sector.
Instituted by the National Training Institute, the BizPro Awards have definitive thrust towards recognising the role models and mentors of the business world in Oman. Partnering with business houses, the primary objective of the award is to recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of Omani performers and inspire people and contribute to the growth of the country.
The evaluation processes for both the Business Leader awards began with nominations. Nominations for the Business Leader were received from all the leading banks in Oman and were assessed in complete confidentiality by the KPMG. Winners were selected on a pre-set criteria by a panel comprising senior KPMG team members. Speaking to the audience after receiving the award Saud said: "Achievement is the result of dedication. One has to be perseverant if success is to be seen."
For Saud, the BizPro Business Leader Award is the first recognition this year. Last year, the Arab Sea Port Federation, a subsidiary of the Arab League, declared him 'Personality of the Year" in recognition of his contribution to the activities of the Federation, as also in the fields of Joint Arab League in 2009. In his eventful career at Port Services Corporation, Saud has the distinction of taking the Corporation through many landmarks, the latest being the recently-inaugurated RO 2.7 million passenger cruise terminal at Port Sultan Qaboos.
The terminal has a 30-metre-high modern control tower and a control room of 78 sqmt. Facilities include restaurants, duty-free shops and a handicraft shop selling traditional crafts of Public Authority for Crafts and Industries. Saud speaks with a vision for the PSQ. "Such a comprehensive facility is a boon to tourism in Oman. As the number of tourists increase, the need of cruise facilities in the ports and hotel rooms in the country will increase."
With such a forward-looking person at the helm, it is not surprising that, for the last two consecutive years, the PSC was declared the Most Efficient Ports among 231 ports and destinations around the world. The award was conferred by World Cruise Destination Magazine at Sea Trade Conference and Exhibition in Miami, USA. In 2009 also the PSQ had the honour of bagging the 'Most Improved Destination' certificate. Port affairs apart, Saud is keen to maintain local employment in PSC at a very high level.
In matters relating to corporate social responsibility, under his stewardship, the PSC has stepped up its investments in CSR activities more than 700 per cent during the last year. The PSC has also been regularly investing in internship opportunities at the port for Omani graduates; with a view to helping them acquire practical skills. The Port Services Corporation (PSC) is an Oman-based company engaged in the operation and management of Port Sultan Qaboos located in Muscat.
Its bouquet of services include container terminal service, break bulk service, cruise service and anchorage service. Saud serves as member of the Boards of the following companies Oman Telecommunication, Oman Dry Docks, Al Hassan Engineering, Oman United Insurance, Public Authority for Social Insurance and Oman al Arabi Fund. Saud is also active in many other forums.
