Murdoch University Dubai will be awarding 1.5 million dirhams worth of scholarships to Media and Communications students enrolling in September 2011.
The Discoverers Scholarships honour the university's first batch of undergraduate alumni and celebrate Murdoch University completing 3 years of operation in the UAE.
50 new students beginning their course of study in September at Murdoch University Dubai will each be awarded scholarships worth AED 30,000. The scholarships will be available to students enrolling into the Media, Communications and Culture (MCC) School, where they can study from a range of courses including Journalism, Screen Production, Public Relations or a combination of the above.
Johan Claasen, Director of the MCC School at Murdoch Dubai, discusses the importance of these scholarships for the continuing growth of the industry.
'There are still excellent opportunities for skilled media graduates to prosper professionally in the region. Both in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the media industry continues to exhibit phenomenal growth through intelligent investment in infrastructure and worldwide collaboration.
Now what is required is investment in resources - people. These scholarships present an opportunity for young people with talent, passion and ambition to gain a high-quality media education at an affordable price. It is an important step for the future of media in the region.'
Professor John Grainger, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Vice President of Murdoch University Dubai congratulated Murdoch's first batch of undergraduate alumni.
'It is a significant achievement both for our students and our institution to graduate our first batch of undergraduate students. For those of us who have seen them grow throughout their three years here, it is a bittersweet moment to see them leave us, but we are reassured by the thought that they are well-equipped to achieve their dreams and continue their lifelong journey of learning. It is with great pride and joy that we announce our discoverers scholarships in their honour. May these scholarships allow others to follow in their pioneering footsteps as we welcome them into our family of young discoverers.'
