BEIRUT: The Middle East Airlines (MEA) will be serving 81 percent of Lebanese expatriates in Africa through direct flights, the company’s chairman Mohammad Hout announced Monday. “Today we are opening the Kinshasa line that will serve the Democratic [Republic of] Congo and Congo Brazzaville along with indirect flights through Abidjan, Lagos, Accra and Kano,” he told reporters after holding talks with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri at the latter’s residence in Ain al-Tineh. Hout said he informed Berri that the MEA would have its first flight to Kinshasa, Congo December 6. Hout’s announcement comes after an Ethiopian plane crashed in the Mediterranean minutes after taking off from Rafik Hariri international airport in Beirut in January. – The Daily Star
