AMMAN -- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) will hold a silent auction on September 2 to lease 19 plots of land it owns near the airport road for investment purposes, according to an advertisement published on Monday.

The lands extend over around 185 dunums, and the bidding will be on the annual rent, starting with JD5,000 for each dunum.

The lease will continue for 30 years, starting from the date of occupation, and divided into five periods, with each lasting for five years.

The rent will increase gradually every five years.

The offers must include a copy of the professional licence, a record of recent projects, and a certified cheque that contains 5 per cent of the annual offer value as a guarantee to enter the auction.

The money will be returned to the bidders after the auction concludes or if bidding is cancelled, according to GAM, which added that the cheque will be considered a down payment for winning bidders.

The projected investments include establishing a theme park, an aqua park, a hotel or hotel suites, a restaurant area, and a small commercial complex, according to the advertisement.

Moreover, the advertisement said the occupant will be given a two-year grace period for the purposes of establishing the project.

The blueprints for the planned buildings must be approved by GAM after six months have passed from the grace period and a tenant must obtain the necessary approvals from concerned stakeholders, according to the advertisement, and GAM will not be responsible for getting any approvals.

The tenant is responsible for paying all fees and taxes, including property tax, in accordance with the law, and is also responsible for providing the necessary infrastructure and paying the taxes of its services.

Moreover, tenants must not begin the construction of the facilities unless the blueprints and specifications are approved by GAM.

According to the advertisement, the final date to obtain an auction form is on August 13, and the date for inspecting the locations will be set on August 20 during a meeting at GAM's main building at 10am.
