Tehran - An official with the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) said on Wednesday that the institute and German company Schmidt signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on producing solar panels in Iran.

Akbar Hassanipour said that the deal was signed by deputy director of IDRO, Saeed Faeqi and deputy director of Schmidt Company Exel Bang Hard.

Based on the 20-Year Vision Plan, Iran should meet 10 percent of its energy needs from renewable energies. Not to mention that 10 percent of new energies should be met from solar cells, he said.

Currently, Iran produces 70,000 megawatts of electricity annually, which will reach 100,000 megawatts in 2025. IDRO said that at least, 1,000 megawatts of electricity must be generated from solar panels.

Schmidt Company is one of the great European firms in the field of solar panels which will transfer the technology needed by the project to produce 200 megawatts of electricity each year, Hassanipour said.

The project will cost 12,000 billion Rials to work out, he said.
