The UAE Society of Engineers has announced final preparations for organizing the First UAE Conference on Excellence in Project and Risk Management in Megaprojects. The conference, which will take place at the Intercontinental Festival City Dubai, between May 25 to 27, 2015, will be the first of its kind in presenting unique aspects of megaprojects management.
Commenting on this, His Excellency Engineer Issa Al Maydour, Chairman of the Society of Engineers, highlighted that Megaprojects management is a topic of high importance in the UAE, owing to the prosperous real estate sector in the country, and in Dubai in particular. Studying best practices, AL Maydour continued, is essential to adopt the best means, technology, and expertise in such projects, as well as study risks and opportunities, aiming at transferring knowledge and investing in human resources to achieve sustainable development.
Al Maydour also noted that the jury panel has completed its deliberations to select winners of the Excellence Award in Project and Risk Management in Megaprojects. The panel has assessed 25 applicants, and winners will be announced in the opening ceremony of the conference.
For his part, Mr. Majid Farouk Hanna, Director General of the UAE Society of Engineers, said that the conference reflects the important role played by the Society as a point of communication and connection between the various stakeholders from the private and public sectors, as evident by the number of highly qualified experts who are attending the conference. The conference, Hanna continued, will include five professional programs: The Conference, an engineering exhibition, the young engineer's forum, best practices awards, and field visits to important megaprojects.
