Dubai: Private school education in Dubai just got costlier. Eighty-three schools have been allowed to raise fees by 3 to 9 per cent and more schools are expected to follow suit.
This year, 117 schools have applied for fee increase and 83 have been given permission and the remaining applications pending, said Mohammad Darwish, Chief of Regulations and Compliance Commission, Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
All Indian schools, which began their academic year in April, have announced the hike with retrospective effect.
Of the 146 private schools in Dubai, 129 are eligible to seek fee hike as per the new framework, which is based on the ratings.
The framework allows schools rated outstanding to increase fees by 6 per cent, while good schools can increase by 4.5 per cent, where as acceptable and unsatisfactory schools are allowed 3 per cent fee hike.
Parents feel the ratings, which are based on annual inspections conducted by KHDAs Dubai School Inspections Bureau, is designed only to allow schools regular fee hikes.
