Dubai residents told to 'register' homes

By Mohammed Al Sadafy

226 homes registered in the Housing Security Programme last year
With reports of thefts increasing as summer heats up in the UAE, residents are urged to take utmost caution, especially while travelling.

General Khalil Al Mansouri, Director of Criminal Investigation, called for citizens and residents in Dubai to register themselves in the Housing Security Programme.

A house registration entails mentioning complete details including contact numbers of the inhabitants. Police officials will patrol the area and on seeing anything untoward they will immediately inform the owners, thereby, reducing any damage to property, he added.

Meanwhile, Al Mansouri also called upon residents not to leave behind valuables in house while travelling and adopt modern security methods.
The first quarter of this year saw eight thefts, which is less than that of last year.

The programme was launched in 2009. Poeple can register in the programme by visting Dubai Police website http://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae

Captain Saud Salim Al Jabri, head of the criminal register and the President of team security said 207 homes were registered in 2010; 226 in 2011 and 19 in the first quarter of this year.
