Roads and Transport Authority - Zakia Suhail Almusharkh: The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently conducted a free English language course for cab drivers, in cooperation with the Danube Educational Institute as aprt of DTC's keen attention to improve the skills of taxi drivers. The opening sessionof the course was attended by Engineer Ahmed Khalfan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation and Samir Shah, Manager of the Danube Educational Institute in addition to senior officials of the DTC and the Institute.

"This course comes as part of "Speak Fluently" initiative launched by DTC's Human Resources Department in order to hone English language skills of our taxidrivers and enhance the DTC's corporate profile among customers and the public in general. The initiative will contribute positively to providing distinguished service sto customers and realizing DTC's  vision of "Pioneers in Passenger Transport Services."

"The Course is held in cooperation with the Danube Educational Institute; a non-profit organization licensed by the Community Development Authority and affiliated to Danube Commercial Group. The 48 selected drivers have been subjected to a placement test at DTC's Drivers Training and Qualification Center to assess their specific knowledge & extent of their proficiency in English language. Test-takers are then classified into three levels according to their scores and are then subjected to two classes  per week for a period of two months. An Asessement Test is then administered to the course affilaites who should score a minimum of 70% in order to obtain accredited certificates from both the Institute and the DTC," explained Al Suwaidi.

The CEO of DTC thanked the Danube Educational Institute for running this free course, which will contribute to achieving the desired objectives of improving English Language commuiation skills of taxi driver, reducing customer complaints in this regard, and raising customers satisfaction. The CEO of DTC reiterated DTC's keenness on offering services and facilities aligned to  the highest standards of quality and excellence, besides continuing qualifying cabbies basis in a comprehensive manner in a bid to provide quality services to the public and passengers, and empower cabbies to do more efforts in performing their duties in a distinguished manner.

Samir Shah, Director of the Danube Educational Institute, was delighted to cooperate with DTC in this initiative aimed at imparting taxi drives with the basic English language skills, which would enhance their communication skills, improve their job efficiency, and have a positive bearing on the performance of DTC towards achieving its vision, and offering further potetials for communicating with different nationalities & community segments.

"We, at the Danube Institute, have set a comprehensive program for cabbies to improve their English language reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, in addition to other topics related to their everyday life, be it  at the personal or business level," conluded the Director of the Danube Educational Institute.
