Dubai: Dubai Metro has transported more than 88 million passengers during the first half of 2015.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said Dubai Metro’s red and green lines have cumulatively transported 88,252,034 passengers between January and June, an increase from 81,403,876 over the same period last year.

The Dubai Tram also became more popular, transporting 1,854,055 passengers in the first half of 2015.

Mohammad Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operation at RTA, said, “The rising numbers of Metro and tram passengers during the first half of this year are a clear indicator that these two transit modes have commanded the attention of the residents and visitors who have made them their primary mobility means within the emirate of Dubai.”

These modes of public transport have become attractive to passengers, thanks to the “smooth, enjoyable and secure rides on these modes to various commercial or residential destinations in Dubai”, Al Mudharreb added.

The RTA, he said, is always improving its service offerings, with the aim of bringing more happiness to people, and encouraging them to use public transport in general and the Metro and tram in particular.
