The delegation took a tour of the Institutes facilities and met with EIAST executives on possible future collaboration

Dubai - The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) welcomed delegates from the Indian Consulate in Dubai on 13 Jan 2015 at their facility. The delegation, headed by H.E. Anurag Bhushan, Consul General of the Indian Consulate in Dubai, met with top EIAST executives led by Director General H.E. Yousuf Al Shaibani. The delegates from the Indian Consulate discussed possible cooperation between EIAST and Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO)in the field of space and related areas.

"India is in the midst of a massive national development campaign and one of the areas of focus is harnessing space technology for more diversified growth. ISRO, the national space agency of India has formal cooperative agreements with more than 35 countries. As UAE is gearing to achieve feats in the area of space such as its planned Mars mission in 2021, we believe that cooperation between India and UAE in space field will strengthen and diversify the existing strong bilateral relations,"said H.E. Anurag Bhushan Consul General of India, Indian Consulate in Dubai.

"India has shown that there are no boundaries to what can be achieved through dedication and determination," said Director General Al Shaibani. "One of our main objectives in EIAST is to share knowledge and cooperate with other organizations who share our goal of developing space technology for the overall development of the nation. We look forward to working with the ISRO on future projects."The group was briefed on EIAST's achievements, such as the launch of DubaiSat 1 and 2, and given a tour of the Institution, including the soon-to-be-completed satellite manufacturing facility, that will be home to the KhalifaSat project. KhalifaSat is the first to be designed and built purely by an Emirati team of engineers on UAE soil.

ISRO made headlines in September 2014 with its launch of the satellite Mangalyaan to orbit around Mars. And again in December with the successful launch of the 630-tonne Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle MK-III (GSLV MK-III). ISRO has already launched 35 satellites for South Korea, Mauritius, Russia, Indonesia, Argentina, Israel, Canada, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Algeria, Singapore, France, Austria, UK and European Space Agency using its other successful launch vehicle - PSLV.

EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 with the goal of promoting a culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, and enhancing technology innovation and scientific skills among UAE Nationals. It is mainly involved in outer space research and development, satellite manufacturing and systems development, space imaging, and ground station services and support for other satellites.
