29 May 2016
Dubai, UAE and Berlin, Germany - DMCC, ('Dubai Multi Commodities Centre'), the Government authority on trade, enterprise and commodities in Dubai and home to over 12,000 of the world's leading businesses, announced today its signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Arabian Business Centre to establish the German Arabian Advisory in Dusseldorf. This DMCC representative office in Germany strengthens its presence in the European business environment by making services even more accessible to potential clients.

The purpose of the memorandum is to formalise a bi-lateral collaboration to identify and deliver a range of value-added opportunities that can be leveraged by existing DMCC member companies, while enhancing the ability of potential new members to establish their operations in the DMCC Free Zone in Dubai.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the 19th annual Arab-German Business Forum in Berlin organised by the Arab-German Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Ms Krysta Fox, DMCC's Executive Director of Free Zone, was on hand to participate in a set of panel discussions outlining the strategic advantages of doing business in the UAE, and how DMCC leverages these opportunities to tap into emerging markets across the East and West.

Commenting on the signing of the MoU, Ms Fox said:

"The UAE is Germany's largest trade partner in the region, and Germany is the fourth-largest exporter to the UAE, totalling over US$15,000,000,000. Dubai today is home to over 10,000 German nationals, and around 200 German companies operate within DMCC alone. Signing this MoU and formalising our collaboration is the natural next step in enhancing the strong trading relations between our two nations. At DMCC we are passionate about delivering new and sustainable marketplaces for our over 12,000 Free Zone member companies who represent every corner of the globe."

Ms Miriam Lakebrink, the CEO of German Arabian Serviced Offices, also commented:

"With over ten years of experience in company formation and advisory services, we are uniquely positioned to partner with Dubai's DMCC Free Zone as they enter the German market for the first time and to further strengthen their links in Europe. Located just a short walk from Düsseldorf Airport, the German Arabian Advisory GmbH, a Sister company of German Arabian Business Centre will serve as a direct channel to new markets for European companies looking at Dubai. Our strong ties with the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also be of significant benefit for those interested parties, bringing confidence and transparency to the process."

The signing ceremony which was co-hosted by DMCC and the German Arabian Business Centre and attended by His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the UAE's Minister of Economy; along with Ms Fox, Ms Miriam Lakebrink - CEO German Arabian Serviced Offices DMCC, Mr Abdulaziz Al-Mikhlafi - Secretary-General of Ghorfa (Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Dr Peter Ramsauer, President of Ghorfa.

Opening a representative office in Düsseldorf, one of Germany's economic and trade centres, brings DMCC, also named Global Free Zone of the Year by Financial Times fDi Magazine, to the doorstep of European clients. This extension of DMCC's services will serve as a gateway for European companies into the bustling emerging markets across Asia and Africa. By visiting the Düsseldorf office, prospective clients do not need to travel to Dubai to process the applications for membership. Düsseldorf - which is only a short train journey from London, Paris, and Berlin - also provides quick access to Dubai for clients based in Europe, with direct air service through Emirates Airline.

Ms. Fox concluded:

"DMCC now boasts a global network of 25 International Service Partners stretching across Europe and Asia. It has never been easier to do business in DMCC. 95 percent of our member companies are new to Dubai, so it is imperative that we make our offerings as smooth and efficient as possible. That is why our products, services and infrastructure are designed to accommodate a truly global customer. This representative office is a vital platform to extend our reach into the heart of Europe as well as giving companies based in Europe a unique opportunity to tap into the emerging economies of the East."
