Al Sulaymaniyah, Iraq: Asiacell Telecommunications Company announces its participation in the 36th session of the Working Group for Emergency Telecommunications (WGET) which took place in Dubai on April 29th and 30th.

Asiacell, a private shareholding company and a pioneer in providing high-quality mobile services in Iraq, runs several charity and social responsibility programs that make vital contributions to humanitarian efforts in Iraq and to the broader Iraqi society.

One of Asiacell's main focuses is offering urgent support to those displaced by recent disasters in Iraq. Asiacell has established a special center to serve the displaced in Sulaymaniya, accessible by calling (385) free of charge. The center offers humanitarian, social and legal services to displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees. It receives an average of more than 10,000 calls each month from across the governorate.

Asiacell's efforts to help Iraq's most vulnerable people rely on collaborations and successful partnerships between Asiacell itself and local and international organizations.

The WGET forum aims to increase coordination and cooperation between telecommunications companies, and to help participating companies better fulfill the operational and technical aspects of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in humanitarian and disaster relief situations.

The forum draws on the support of executive partners to envision the technological requirements in the future. It also works to promote innovation and strengthen partnership among national governments, United Nations entities and Non-Governmental Organizations. The WGET world forum receives support and aid from United Nations, the European Union, more than 100 countries and hundreds of leading telecommunications and information technology companies.

Mr. Faruk Mustafa Rasool, Asiacell's Chairman, said: "In the case of relief efforts for human disasters, it's clear that prediction and preparation have become increasingly essential factors in our strategy to serve society. Mobile technology has created new opportunities to help people and offer humanitarian support through communication and connection mechanisms. We're able to help care for affected individuals during times of emergency and that is one of the most important human values at Asiacell."

Mr. Abdulla Hassan, Head of Public Relations at Asiacell and head of the delegation to the (WGET) world forum, said: "The Company has been nominated at various local and international arenas for awards in the field of social responsibility, and that reflects the valuable and significant role Asiacell plays as a socially responsible company in Iraq. We announce today our participation at the 36th session of the Working Group for Emergency Telecommunications (WGET) which will take place in Dubai, UAE from April 29th to 30th, 2015."
