Algeria's Ministry of Industry, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Investment Promotion has completed the construction of majority or approximately 80% of the new industrial city project in Rouiba, located east of the capital Algiers. The complex, which is estimated to cost around USD 500 million to build, is on track to beat delivery targets early next year, a source familiar with the project told Zawya.

Mahjoub Fourat, deputy director of Tasyeer Real Estate Company, said handover of the 1,000-hectare project is scheduled for January 2014. He added that the development is set to employ around 30,000 workers in both direct and indirect positions.

Fourat also mentioned that a specially designated commercial area will be built on the outskirts of the new industrial city. Infrastructure for this commercial space will be constructed following global standards and criteria. The area aims to attract investments by providing various financial, business and administrative services while at the same time offering health and civil defense services, recreation and hospitality facilities.

Algeria has been intensifying efforts to develop five new cities in 2030 as it attempts to create major economic centers capable of attracting substantial investments. These cities include new facilities at Sidi Abdallah district and Bouinan in the capital Algiers, El-Menia in Constantine and Al Jazira Al Khadra'a in Hassi Messaoud.

In addition, a new city is expected to rise soon in Boughezoul, 160 kilometers south of Algiers. Construction of this urban development, which was previously nominated to become Algeria's new administrative capital, is nearing completion.
