The national office of electricity (ONE), Morocco's sole oil refinery (SAMIR) and the AKWA group have signed a partnership convention to set up the required infrastructures for the introduction of natural gas in the country.
The Rabat-based MAP news agency reported that the Ministry of Energy and Mines said the agreement stipulates that the Moroccan government will take the necessary steps, especially in terms of regulations and laws (gas code), for the realisation of the project.
A feasibility study will soon be launched to determine the optimal infrastructures, allowing the use of natural gas to be generalised, secure supplies and provide low-cost gas, added the agency.
The agreement is part of the energy strategy aiming at diversifying supply sources, guaranteeing low-cost energy, and protecting the environment.
