Event spans over 7000 sq metres and showcases latest agriculture technologies

Abu Dhabi, 14th February 2012:  As part of its endevours to boost the agricultural sector in Abu Dhabi as per Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) announced today that it is organizing the 2nd Agricultural Exhibition at Al Ain Convention Centre on 22-25 February.

The four-day exhibition organised by ADFCA is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

Spanning over 7,000  square metres with 150 exhibiting stands, the Exhibition will see the participation of some leading food and agricultural brands that encompass, in addition to ADFCA, Farmer Service Centre and sponsors, concerned government and semi-government entities, UAE-based international agricultural and livestock companies, agricultural and animal factories as well as farm and livestock owners.

The Exhibition will also host several pavilions to showcase breakthrough agricultural technologies and systems such as irrigation and chemical and organic fertilizers. Other stands hosted during the show will focus on agricultural equipment and machineries, post-harvest produce treatment, local produce, date palm stand, and livestock products.

Speakers at the press conference that was held to brief media on details of the exhibition highlighted policies and strategies ADFCA plans to roll out with the aim to boost and sustain the agriculture sector emirate-wide. 

HE Mubarak Ali Mohammed Al Mansouri, the Executive Director of Agriculture Affairs, ADFCA, said, "This exhibition comes in line with ADFCA's role to implement the priorities of Abu Dhabi Government's  policy agenda calling for a sustainable agricultural sector that preserves the environmental and natural resources whilst supporting Abu Dhabi's food security strategy by developing agriculture and livestock, fueling sustainable agricultural development, and providing the opportunities for government, semi-government and private companies, farm and livestock owners as well as factory owners to network and share the best practices to raise the bar on the sector." 

"Al Ain Exhibition aims to shed more light on ADFCA, its vision, mission, values and priorities, especially with regard to agricultural policy trends, priorities and initiatives to farmers, partners as well as the public. Besides, the show offers a great opportunity to showcase latest technologies, systems and techniques in irrigation, green house and hydroponic farming, production inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, packaging and grading systems, locally-grown produce and livestock, along with encouraging farmers and livestock owners to boost productivity", HE added. 

Acknowledging the role of all sponsors and supporters of the Exhibition to fuel the agricultural sector, Al Mansouri highlighted that the event will promote the sense of belonging and sharing amongst farmers and livestock owners through showcasing their products and sharing the best practices aimed at raising the profile of agriculture in the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular.

Mr. Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Communication and Community Service, ADFCA, said, "The Exhibition is one of the many initiatives undertaken by ADFCA to raise the bar on the agricultural sector in Abu Dhabi by bettering the conditions of farmers and farm owners whilst promoting locally-grown produce to compete with international ones."

"ADFCA has done its best to make the 2nd Agricultural Exhibition in Al Ain a defining event, which is expected to attract a large number of participants. By offering free-of-charge participation, ADFCA is motivating all agriculture and livestock-related players to take part and network," he added.

Alongside the exhibition, there will be several activities such as symposiums, awareness programmes, cultural contests and some plays. Prizes will be awarded to the best government exhibitor, best exhibitor (company or factory or entity), as well as the best livestock-exhibitor. 

Cash awards will be granted to 3 top farms in Abu Dhabi, three best animal farms, and best agricultural technology at the show. In addition, an auction to sell some breeds of sheep and goats will be orgranized during the Show. It will be managed by a special committee set up by ADFCA and Farmers' Service Centre and as per the laws and regulations of Abu Dhabi.
